Lunches

Ka Ora, Ka Ako/Healthy School Lunches Programme

This is our menu for the first 2 weeks. This will be updated every fortnight and if you have any questions please contact the school

Papatoetoe South School participates in the Ka Ora, Ka Ako/Healthy School Lunches Programme which we have decided to call ‘Rourou Time’ after the Māori proverb “nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou ka ora ai te iwi” (with your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.) Our provider for lunches is Lunchy. They are a great company that we are delighted to be working alongside with.

All tamariki receive kai for lunch each day based on each child’s dietary, allergen/health and cultural requirements. All meals are nut free and given the high risk of nut-based allergies Lunchy has a policy to never use ingredients containing nuts in their lunches. They are prepared in a commercial kitchen and delivered to our school ready for Break 1 each day. Each lunch is individually served in a compostable lunchbox. All lunchboxes are clearly marked with allergen or special dietary labels.

The ten-day menu (sample below) is designed to utilise fresh, seasonal produce and menus will adjust accordingly throughout the year providing variety and ensuring the highest quality of fresh produce possible.

We know that it can be challenging to provide healthy food that children want to eat and that getting children to enjoy new foods can take time. We realise that the food can be different to what they are used to but we ask that you encourage your children to try the food each day. A regular nutritious lunch can make a big difference to students’ learning and participation at school and we thank you for your support of this programme.

Students should continue to bring their own water bottle to school every day to ensure they keep hydrated.
